Fishing Gear and Equipment at Katmai Lodge
The lodge furnishes all rods (fly, spin, and spey), reels, flies, lures and tackle. If you prefer to use your own equipment, please feel free to bring it.
Katmai Lodge has waders and boots available for use at no additional cost to guests. Should you wish to use Katmai Lodge’s equipment during your stay, please specify size and preferences on your guest registration. If you bring your own, please note that felt-soled boots are banned in Alaska.

Lines
- Kings: 300, 400 and 500 grain sinking lines
- Sockeye: floating line or heavy 10’ sink tip
- Chum: floating line
- Rainbow and Grayling: weight forward floating line and 200 grain sinking lines
Spey Rods & Lines
- King Salmon: 14’, 9 or 10 weight rods
- Skagit 550-650 weight line, 12-18 feet of t-14 sink tip
Chum and Silver Salmon
12.5’ to 14’ 8 or 9 weight rods. Floating line that fits the rod. Skagit heads work best to cast a heavy fly.
Flies
The lodge will furnish all flies. We have a fully stocked fly-tying area for guests in the main lodge with materials that are commonly used in creating patterns used in Alaska. You are welcome to bring some of your own personal flies to try as well.
